Maybank is the largest banking and financial group in Malaysia which provides various banking products and services to a wider range of personal and business clients. As of June 2010, the company accumulates the assets worth $106 billion in USD. It was establish in 1960 with the base headquarters (HQ) in Kuala Lumpur and also popularly know as Malayan Banking Berhad. The bank has more than 1,750 branch offices in 14 countries with considerable number of branches in Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia. In addition, the bank operates in other international locations which include New York, London, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Brunei, Cambodia and Vietnam etc.
During the span of 50 years, the company acquires several other insurance and banking companies which also take major roles in expansion of its offices in the international arena. The significant acquisitions include MNI Insurance and Takaful Nasional through Insurance Company Mayban Fortis in 2005 which were renamed later into Etiqa Insurance and Etiqa Takaful respectively. In 2008, the Maybank also acquires 15% of Vietnam based An Binh Bank and 97.5% of Indonesia based BII (Bank Internasional Indonesia). Recently, in early 2011, they have also acquired 44.6% shares of Kim Eng, a stock, securities and brokerage service provider based in Singapore.
