Bank of the West Stanford is closely associated with the Bank of the West Classic, a week-long women's tennis tournament held annually since 1971. The Bank of the West Classic is the longest running women only tennis tournament in the world that is continuing even today. Stanford University, in its Taube Family Tennis Stadium has been hosting for the Bank of the West Classic since 1997 and till this day. The Bank of the West Classic 2010 has got over recently with the title being lifted by Victoria Azarenka in the Singles and Lindsay Davenport and Liezel Huber in the Doubles. The 2011 Bank of the West Classic is scheduled to be held on July 25-31, 2011 at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Stadium, Stanford University entering the fifth decade and marking the 41st year of competition.

Since started in 1971 and continue playing till this day, the Bank of the West Classic tennis tournament got all the more popular in the field of tennis. A week-long women's tennis tournament played at Taube Family Tennis Stadium, Stanford University, Stanford, California, this event is played as a 32 player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw. The game is played best 2-out-of-3 sets system. Victoria Azarenka clinched the 2010 Bank of the West Classic singles title defeating the fifth-seeded Maria Sharapova.
