Barclays Golf also popularly known as “The Barclays” is a PGA Tour golf tournament in USA. The tournament was started in 1967 as the Westchester Classic at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York. Several organizations have sponsored in many of the event right from 1976 until the first Barclays Classic event in 2005. But the present Barclays as we all know was came to exist when it was playoff in the FedEx Cup event for the first time in 2007.
Barclays sponsors three tournaments i.e. The Barclays, Scottish Open and Singapore Open. The format of these tournaments is based on stroke play basis and the shirt, apparel and dress code is completely casual. Apart from these, they also hold many Pro Am events.
The American Phil Mickelson, a top golf player who also finishes many events and occupies significant position in the PGA Tour money list become the member of Barclays team in March 2008. The venues and locations of the tournament are not confined to one but it keeps changing since 2005. In 2010, the tournament was took place at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey (NJ), a famous golf course which was designed by the architect A.W. Tillinghast. The winner of the tournament is entitled to benefit an amount of $1,350,000 out of the total prize of $7,500,000. On the hand Jim Furyk was disqualified in this tournament for late Pro Am tee time in the Barclays. The Georgian golfer Matt Kuchar was the winner of the championship held in 2010. However, the tournament for the year 2011 will be payoff from 23rd to 28th of August at Plainfield Country Club Edison, New Jersey.
