Bank Negara Malaysia is also widely known as the Central Bank of Malaysia. According to the history of the bank, it was established in 1959 under CBA (Central Bank of Malaysia Act) 1958 with the based headquarters in Kuala Lumpur (KL). It does not provide the banking products and services like the other commercial banks but the operation is bound to some important roles and functions which include the following.
- Currency issue both notes and coins with the denominations of 1 Sen, 5 Sen, 10 Sen, 20 Sen, 50 Sen and the demonetized RM1. These coins can be purchased from BNMLINK counter.
- Maintain the financial stability.
- Act as an adviser and banker to the Government of Malaysia.
The buying and selling service of currency is also available on all weekdays except Saturday, Sunday and holidays. On the other hand, they also provide several loan services which include housing loans, personal and the student loans as well.
The organizational chart consists of Governor which is assisted by three deputy governor, board of directors and senior officers etc. The governor is the chief executive officer of the bank and Zeti Akhtar Aziz is the present gabenor of the bank (as of early 2011).
